Where Kings Once Sat to Admire Nature's Majesty
Raja Seat, meaning "King's Seat," is one of the most spectacular viewpoints in Coorg, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the Western Ghats and the lush green valleys below. This historic site was once a favorite spot for the Kodava kings to relax and enjoy the magnificent sunset views.
Located at an elevation of 1,450 meters above sea level, Raja Seat provides visitors with a 360-degree view of the surrounding landscape, including the distant hills of Karnataka and Kerala. The viewpoint is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
The name "Raja Seat" has its origins in the 19th century when the Kodava kings (Rajas) of Coorg would visit this spot to enjoy the evening breeze and watch the spectacular sunsets. It was their favorite leisure spot, hence the name "Raja's Seat."
During the British colonial period, the area was developed into a public garden and viewpoint, maintaining its royal charm while making it accessible to visitors. Today, it stands as a testament to both natural beauty and royal heritage.
