Sacred Waterfall Where Spirituality Meets Nature
Iruppu Falls is a magnificent 170-foot waterfall located in the Brahmagiri range of the Western Ghats, formed by the sacred Lakshmana Tirtha River. This spectacular natural wonder holds deep religious significance and is considered one of the most sacred waterfalls in South India, attracting thousands of pilgrims and nature lovers annually.
According to Hindu mythology, this waterfall is believed to have been created when Lord Rama's brother, Lakshmana, shot an arrow into the ground to quench Sita's thirst during their exile. The arrow pierced the earth, and from that spot emerged the sacred waters of Lakshmana Tirtha, making Iruppu Falls a revered pilgrimage destination.
The ancient Rameshwara Temple, located near the falls, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and attracts devotees from across Karnataka and Kerala. The temple's architecture reflects traditional South Indian style, and the spiritual atmosphere is enhanced by the constant sound of cascading waters and the surrounding pristine forest.
The falls become particularly significant during the Shivaratri festival when thousands of devotees undertake the sacred journey to seek blessings. Taking a holy dip in the waters of Iruppu Falls is believed to wash away sins and bring spiritual purification, making it an important part of the pilgrimage experience.
