St. Anne's Church in Virajpet is a magnificent Roman Catholic church built in the European Gothic style. Constructed in 1792 under the orders of Dodda Veerarajendra, the King of Coorg, it stands as a testament to the region's rich history and religious harmony.
The church is dedicated to St. Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary. Its imposing structure, featuring a 180-foot high spire, dominates the skyline of Virajpet town. The serene ambiance and architectural grandeur attract visitors from all over.
The history of St. Anne's Church is closely linked to the Coorg kingdom. Legend has it that King Virarajendra built this church to serve the Christian community in his kingdom. The architecture is distinctly Gothic, characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses.
The main tower of the church rises to a height of 180 feet, making it visible from miles away. The interior is equally impressive, with high ceilings, stained glass windows, and a beautiful altar. The church has been renovated over the years but retains its original charm and historical significance.
